Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Professor Marie Miville, Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology, as the Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs, effective September 1, 2020.

As Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs, Dr. Miville will provide leadership in faculty development and initiatives that contribute to the strategic priorities of the College. She will be responsible for leading efforts in faculty mentoring and career development; working with leadership and faculty to create and facilitate diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives; overseeing the development and review of policies and procedures relating to faculty appointments; and fostering a climate where our faculty can thrive.

Dr. Miville joined Teachers College in 2003 as Associate Professor of Psychology and Education and was promoted to Professor in 2016. She is a leading scholar in her field, authoring two books and over 65 publications focused on social justice and multicultural issues in counseling and psychology. Dr. Miville has held numerous significant academic administrative positions at TC, most recently as the College Ombudsperson (2019-2020) as well as Chair (2011-2017)/Co-Chair (2006-2009) of the Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology. In these latter roles, she facilitated the development of new programs, engaged in faculty assessment and workload management strategies, and provided guidance and resources for the faculty, students, and staff in her department. Dr. Miville has held leadership positions in national professional organizations, including Associate Editor of the Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development (2016-present), Vice-President for Education and Training of APA Division 17, Society of Counseling Psychology (2013-2016), and President of the National Latinx Psychological Association (2015).

As Dr. Miville transitions into her new role as Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs, The Office of the Vice President for Diversity and Community Affairs will be searching for a new Teachers College Ombudsperson.

As we welcome Dr. Miville, I also want to thank Dr. Jeff Henig for serving as the interim Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs this past year. I am grateful for Jeff’s leadership, his contributions to the College, and for his collegiality and sage advice which helped guide me through my first year at TC.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Henig, and welcoming Dr. Miville to this role and thanking her for her willingness to serve as a member of our College’s leadership.

Sincerely,

Stephanie J. Rowley, PhD
