Dear Members of the TC Community,

Your personal safety is of utmost importance to the College and we would like to remind you of Public Safety resources available to you.

TCAlert System

The Electronic Notification Service (ENS) TCAlert system is used to inform the community about immediate threats to safety in and around the TC campus. If you have not already signed up for these text alerts, which enable fast and efficient dissemination of information of an urgent nature, please do so. Sign Up for TC Alert >>

Situational Awareness

Situational Awareness is the key to personal safety. Proper planning and preparation can empower individuals to successfully react in dangerous events. As we shared earlier this week, the Office of Public Safety and the TC Campus Safety Advisory Sub-Committee for Sexual Assault Education and Prevention are hosting a brown bag lunch presentation on Situational Awareness. We welcome all community members to join this training next Tuesday, February 15 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Attendance may be in person or virtual. The on-campus meeting location is Grace Dodge Hall Room 179. Registration is required. Register for Situational Awareness Training >>

Via Shuttle Service

Free Via shuttle service is available to community members as an alternative to walking alone at night. To access the service, download the Via app and apply CU’s unique promo code which is updated for each academic term (you will need your UNI and password to access the code). The service runs until 3:00 am each night, and start times vary depending on the month. Check this calendar for the most up to date start times.

Public Safety Patrols

TC and CU Offices of Public Safety are continuing with increased exterior campus patrols, and enhanced police and public safety patrols continue in Morningside Park and its perimeter as well. In particular, NYC Parks safety officers are increasing patrols in Morningside Park during the late afternoon and early evening hours of higher activity, and enforcing the park closure at 10:30 pm.

Remember, if you experience an emergency on campus, call the Public Safety emergency line at 212-678-3333 (ext. 3333 from a campus phone). For emergencies off campus, please call 911.

We remain committed to your safety and are here to answer any questions you may have about security resources. You may always reach us at officeofpublicsafety@tc.columbia.edu.

Sincerely,

Hank Perkowski
Vice President for Finance and Operations

John DeAngelis
Assistant Vice President, Office of Public Safety
