Ed.D. Student, Art and Art Education

Research Discipline/Bio

Siyao Lyu is currently a 4th-year Ed.D. student at the Art and Art Education program, Teachers College. Her research and professional practice center on advancing civic education in museums, with a particular emphasis on arts-based approaches that engage historically marginalized communities. Her doctoral dissertation investigates the use of the arts in museum settings to teach Asian/American civics and address anti-Asian racism.

Currently, Siyao serves as a TC/Whitney Fellow, supporting evaluation work at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and as a museum educator at the Museum of Chinese in America. She previously worked with Harvard Art Museums, Harvard Museums of Natural History, the Children’s Museum of the Arts in New York, and the Today Art Museum in Beijing. From 2022 to 2024, Siyao served as the editor of Children/Museum/Education, an academic journal published by the Children’s Museum Research Center at Beijing Normal University.
