Research Discipline/Bio
Siyao Lyu is currently an Ed.D. student at Teachers College, Columbia University. Siyao’s education practices and research focus on the complexities of community-based learning spaces, such as museums. Specifically, she is interested in the potential of civic and antiracist education in community settings through arts-based approaches for culturally marginalized populations, such as Asian and Asian American communities. Through her research and practice, Siyao intends to disrupt education inequality, challenge mainstream educational discourses, and promote the increased well-being of the general public.
Siyao is also currently a researcher at the Children’s Museum Research Center, Beijing Normal University, and a museum educator at the Museum of Chinese in America, NYC. Siyao was associated with several museums in the past, including Harvard Art Museums, Harvard Museums of Natural History, Children’s Museum of the Arts in New York, and Today Art Museum in Beijing.
