If you are considering having a non-TC/Columbia University member serve on your final oral defense committee, please read the link below and pay close attention to Section II. If the member does not meet this criteria, GSAS will not approve your committee and you will need to find a new member.

GSAS requests the petition to be submitted ODS at the time of the scheduling of the defense, so if you are not sure if your committee member is eligible, then you can ask ODS and we will bring it to GSAS for a staff review. Please note that the staff review does not override the final Dean's review of the committee at the time of the scheduled defense, so it is important to make sure your outside member meets the criteria set by GSAS in the below link.
