Prerequisites

Master's Degree

If your goal is to complete a master's degree through our Program in Nutrition, you are required to successfully complete the following seven or eight master's prerequisite courses:

  • General chemistry with lab (completed through a comprehensive one-semester course or through general chemistry I)
  • Organic chemistry with lab (completed through a comprehensive one-semester course or through organic chemistry I)
  • Biochemistry without lab (completed through a comprehensive one-semester course)
  • Human physiology with lab (completed through a comprehensive one-semester course or through anatomy & physiology I and II)
  • Microbiology without lab
  • Introductory nutrition
  • Statistics

Master's Degree plus Dietetic Internship Program

If your goal is to complete both the master's degree and Dietetic Internship Program (to become a registered dietitian-nutritionist), you are required to successfully complete the following additional three courses outside Teachers College:

  • Ethnic and therapeutic meal patterns (at Lehman College in New York City)
  • Food science (at Lehman College in New York City)
  • Food service operations and management (at Lehman College in New York City)

Ethnic and therapeutic meal patterns, food science, and food service operations and management are graduate-level courses that must be completed at Lehman College in New York City. The three Lehman College courses are designed for Teachers College master’s students. These courses can be completed prior to entering the Teachers College Program in Nutrition or can be completed alongside master’s courses.
