Prerequisite Courses


Master of Science (MS) Degree + Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist (RDN) Preparation

If your goal is to complete a master’s degree and be eligible to complete the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist exam to become an RDN, you are required to successfully complete the following seven or eight undergraduate-level prerequisite courses:

  • General chemistry with lab (completed through a comprehensive one-semester course or through general chemistry 1)
  • Organic chemistry with lab (completed through a comprehensive one-semester course or through organic chemistry 1)
  • Biochemistry without lab (completed through a comprehensive one-semester course)
  • Human physiology with lab (completed through a comprehensive one-semester course or through anatomy & physiology 1 and 2 with labs)
  • Microbiology without lab
  • Introductory nutrition
  • Statistics

At least four of these courses must be successfully completed prior to submitting an application. If admitted to our Program in Nutrition, you will need to complete all remaining prerequisite courses with suitable grades prior to beginning our master’s program.
