Group Discussions

This page compares how four teachers orchestrate group discussions.  It draws from reflections and curriculum materials that describe what the teachers do; resources and handouts that the teachers use to encourage engagement in the discussion, in the analysis of literature, and the thoughtful consideration of social issues relevant to the students’ own lives; videos that document the way that the teachers and students interact during the discussions; and interviews with the teachers and some students about the group discussions.
