Low Back Pain and Parkinson's

Low Back Pain and Parkinson's (LBP & PD)

Low back pain in people with Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common occurrence. The purpose of this study is to understand the biomechanics and relation of back pain specific to this population. In normally developing populations, low back pain results from poor body mechanics that leads to injury or some common orthopedic issues, such as herniated discs and stenosis. In PD, there are a constellation of issues that could be contributing factors beyond these typical orthopedic concerns, including rigidity in the abdominal wall, forward flexed posturing, impared balance, etc. Understanding the biomechanics related to low back pain in this population could open up avenues for treatment in the future. This is an exploratory study that will be performed in person in the Biomechanics Research Lab using the Vicon System.
