Honoring Juneteenth
Sending our warm wishes to all TC students, faculty, staff and friends for Juneteenth, which the College and nation will observe tomorrow as a federal holiday.
Also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, Juneteenth commemorates the freeing of enslaved people in the United States on June 19, 1865 in Texas — two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863.
This day of celebration, remembrance and reflection offers an opportunity to embrace our shared commitment to working to achieve inclusion and equity for all.
We look forward to celebrating with many of you later today at TC's annual Juneteenth Community Celebration, hosted by the Office of the Vice President for Diversity and Community Affairs.
And we hope that you can take time to learn more about Juneteenth through educational or commemorative activities taking place uptown and around NYC.
