Dear Members of the TC Community,
Today is Constitution Day, a date designated by Congress in 1952 to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787. The Framers' vision of a government built on shared principles and the pursuit of a "more perfect union" is, at its core, a commitment to human flourishing. It is a vision that requires an educated citizenry to thrive, a society that protects the well-being of its people, and a deep understanding of the human condition to ensure justice and equality. This is also a core part of TC’s founding principles, which we continue to uphold.
I hope you will all take a moment today to reflect on our common values of critical inquiry, respectful discourse, and a commitment to serving the public good. Please join me in renewing our commitment to these ideals, recognizing that our work as scholars and practitioners and members of the TC community is vital to realizing the promise of liberty and justice for everyone in our society.
With thanks to the combined efforts of our Office of Diversity & Community Affairs and our Office of Government Relations, please visit the first floor of Zankel today, outside of the Everett Lounge, for a complimentary pocket U.S. Constitution.
I am grateful for our collective work in support of the public good, in the U.S. and around the world.
Sincerely,
Thomas Bailey
