Education for Transitional Justice, Reconciliation, and Peacebuilding: The Case of Colombia

Funded by an Dubai Cares/INEE E-3 Grant, this three-year project explores the case of Colombia, which signed a peace agreement in 2016 after more than five decades of armed conflict. Through the use of mixed research methods data collected across three regions, this study will investigate how transitional justice processes are incorporated within the education system and how teachers and students understand and engage with concepts related to transitional justice and peacebuilding.

Understanding Civic Identity, Rights, and Belonging among Resettled Refugee and Newcomer Immigrant Students in the U.S.

Funded by the Spencer Foundation, this mixed methods research project examines notions of citizenship, rights, and belonging among refugee and newcomer immigrant students in schools across two diverse social contexts: New York and Arizona. The study seeks to understand how recently arrived refugee and immigrant students understand concepts of civic identity, rights, and belonging, as well as the importance of the social context of schools and communities. Youth activism in the U.S.: The influence of schooling.  

This three-year project (2019-2021) explores the influence of schooling on the decisions of youth to become socially and politically active. In-depth interviews with nearly 30 youth explore their perceptions of what has influenced their activism in the school setting and how they see themselves as contributing to social change.
