Levin Explains Diversification of Education Management Organizations

Hank Levin, director of the National Center for the Study of Privatization in Education and professor of economics and education, said it has become necessary for charter school operators to expand their areas of service for profit earning purposes.  According to Levin, education management organizations (EMOs) originally believed that opening K-8 and high schools would prove financially lucrative, but found they needed to diversify their efforts to include related services such as tutoring when this failed to happen.
