Getting a Grip on America's Fiscal Challenges

Anand Marri, Associate Professor of Social STudies and Education, shakes hands with former President Bill Clinton at the 2012 Fiscal Summit, hosted by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation.
The 2012 Fiscal Summit, hosted by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation in Washington, D.C. in May, brought together many government officials, corporate leaders, academics, policy analysts, and media to discuss short-term and long-term fiscal challenges.  Speakers including former President Bill Clinton, Tom Brokaw, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, House Speaker John Boehner, former Wyoming Senator Alan Simpson, Ohio Senator Rob Portman, Representatives Paul Ryan and Chris Van Hollen, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, and Peter G. Peterson himself discussed unemployment, economic growth, national debt, federal budget, debt ceiling, and the taxation policies.

A contingent from TC attended as part of an ongoing effort to promote the College's "Understanding Fiscal Responsibility" curriculum, developed by a team led by Marri with support from the Peterson Foundation. TC attendees included doctoral student Robert Shand (Economics & Education program) and a team from EdLab (George Nantwi, Michelle Lee, Manav Malhotra, Fred Rossoff, Demetri Lales).
