More than 500 students from 29 states and 21 countries gathered at Teachers College for the College’s third annual Admitted Student Day (ASD) celebration. Organized by the Office of Admission, guests joined the College for a dynamic day of campus tours, departmental information sessions, student panels, and a variety of activities, all unified by a central theme: community.

Campus was adorned with decorations in vibrant hues of blue ahead of the celebratory day.

The Admissions staff at TC eagerly welcomed the arrival of our newest students.

Students headed over to the Joyce Berger Cowin Center, where they started the morning off with NYC-themed trivia questions and opening remarks from Deanna Gregory, Director of Recruitment at Teachers College, and KerryAnn O’Meara, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Provost and Dean of the College.

“Teachers College encompasses more than just the classroom experience – it’s a community experience,” shared Gregory.

“We hope you take your offer of admission, your singular invitation, to become part of TC’s legacy of changemakers—agents who are willing to go first—to say ‘yes!’” shared O’Meara as she addressed TC’s newest group of changemakers.

Throughout the day, students enjoyed tours of the historic campus led by current students. From Grace Dodge and Zankel Hall to the Gottesman Libraries, TC’s newest community members learned about resources, dining options, classes and everything in between.

“It was incredible to learn more about my program while exploring the beautiful historic buildings around TC’s campus,” shared Aliya Sheikh, a newly admitted student in TC’s Social Studies Education program.

Attendees also had the opportunity to engage in “Residential Talk and Tour," through which they received information about on-campus housing options at Teachers College, and even got to explore various dorm rooms.

Friendly Faces: Admission staff were readily available to answer questions and assist new students.

“The kindness and warmth I encountered were truly remarkable,” said Mia Downs, an incoming student in TC’s Science Education program. “I’m excited to be joining such a welcoming community.”

Students had the special opportunity to customize their day by selecting sessions that aligned with their interests and needs, with a diverse range of choices available each hour. And of course, no visit would be complete without a stop at TC’s apparel shop.

ASD concluded with the College’s annual “Mix and Mingle” session, accompanied by food, celebration and closing remarks from President Thomas Bailey.

“I’m always happy to hear about our students’ experiences, what’s working and even what’s not working, so we can do everything we can to make sure your time with us is  the best it can be for you,” shared Bailey. “Because that’s how we make change in the world: through you, and your TC education.”
