Beyond Brain Waves
Spurti Vemuri, Class of 2023
Beyond Brainwaves
Beyond Brainwaves, formerly known as the Brainwaves Podcast, is an exploration of how the environment (both internal and external) might affect the brain and behavior. The host, Spurti, is a neuroscientist and educator with formal training in developmental neurobiology, sleep science, language and cognitive neuroscience, field and wildlife biology, and science communication. Throughout her academic career and personal life, Spurti has been interested in understanding how the brain, behavior, and overall health of individuals and communities are affected by the environment and lifestyle. Her curiosity has led her to work in and learn from various laboratories across the globe, science outreach initiatives, and even the rainforests of Costa Rica. A strong believer in the power of communicating science with honesty and integrity, Spurti has found purpose in making education, and research, more accessible and fun to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Beyond Brainwaves, somewhat of a culmination of Spurti's education and personal experiences, aims to understand how seemingly unrelated variables may contribute to overall brain health and development through conversations with subject matter experts in fields such as neuroscience, biology, anthropology, chemistry, and physics.
