Add a Grade Item

You may use the gradebook without creating assignments first. You can do this for all your grades, or a single item (for example you may want to give a grade to students' participation.)


Step 1: Click on Grades in the Administration panel

Step 2: Click on the Grader Report drop-down menu to expand. Choose Categories and Items.

Step 3: Scroll down and click on Add grade item

Step 4: Name the new grade item and fill out the details in either basic or advanced mode. All grades are converted to percentages, so it is easiest to use a maximum grade of 100. Save changes.

Step 5: Once created, you may edit a grade item by clicking on the edit icon (gear).
