The Curriculum and Teaching Professional Certification programs develop educators who exert leadership in their school settings and with their colleagues. Students graduate with a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Teaching with Professional Certification at the Elementary Level (grades 1-6) or at the Secondary Level in English, Social Studies, Science, Technology, or Mathematics (grades 7-12). Initial Certification is a prerequisite for admission.
The M.A. in Curriculum and Teaching is designed so that with careful planning and advisement, the program can be completed in 16 months. This timeline allows students to engage deeply in coursework and fully benefit from the rich experiences and community offered by a Teachers College education. The program may also be taken part-time for students who chose to continue to work while pursuing a graduate degree.
Three philosphical stances inform our degree programs: teaching as inquiry, teaching as curriculum making, and teaching for social justice.
