In an opinion piece in the January issue of The State Education Standard, (the magazine of the National Association of State Boards of Education, pp. 26-29; 37) Jeffrey Henig argues that 25 years after their invention, charter schools are “here to stay.” But their success depends critically on the continued involvement of public officials and those who elect them. “There is no strong accountability at charter schools without the strong oversight of public officials,” Henig writes in the op-ed, “Charter Schools and Accountability.” (The link points to the full issue - scroll to P26 for Jeff's article.)
