Microaggressions are brief, commonplace slights that can be intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative attitudes towards marginalized group members. Cumulatively, they can often lead people to feel overwhelmed, depressed, or anxious. While many people are working remotely, microaggressions have not disappeared. In this webinar, Dr. Gina Torino (Ph.D. '09) will discuss the incidence and implications of online microaggressions in the workplace and what we can do to stop them.

Date: Wednesday, May 26

Gina Torino received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2009. She has authored numerous scholarly articles, book chapters and peer-reviewed studies on the teaching strategies used to cultivate culturally competent clinicians; processes of white racial identity development; and the manifestation and impact of microaggressions. Her co-edited book, “Microaggression Theory: Influence and Implications,” (Torino, Rivera, Capodilupo, Nadal, Sue, 2019) presents cutting-edge reviews of microaggression research, explores controversies surrounding the theory, discusses its relationship to the sociopolitical dynamics of society and offers solutions in combatting microaggressions at the individual, institutional, and societal levels. Dr. Torino is also a licensed psychologist in the state of New York.
