Differentiation in the Language Learning Classroom

Every student and teacher has different strengths and levels of ability, and an essential component of teaching is keeping these differences in mind. Whether working with students with special needs, students with different styles of learning, and/or simply working with linguistically and culturally diverse students, the topic of differentiated teaching has a place. All students are different, but all students have the right to learn and engage with the material to receive the best education possible. In the language classroom, this issue is even more relevant. Thus, the question must be posed: how can teachers create a learning environment where (language) students of differing strengths and abilities are able to engage and challenge material without being overwhelmed by the difficulty? How is a teacher able to create lesson plans and classroom practices that will be suitable for all of their students?

In this year’s Celebration of Teacher Conference, we will come together once again to pose answers to these questions. In this year’s annual event, our presenters will share their own techniques, and all participants will have chances to share in others’ resources to help veteran, and new teachers. We invite you to join us on Saturday, March 5th, 2022, to offer you successful strategies and tactics in teaching the English Language/multilingual learners in a diverse classroom setting to explore promising instruction approaches in the language-learning context.
