Abstract

Drawing information from Complete College America’s (CCA) recently published guide, No Middle Ground: Advancing Equity Through Practice, Dr. Watson Spiva will discuss how a long-standing history of inequity and inequality in our education systems still limits opportunities for students and affects access to higher education and completion rates. Dr. Watson Spiva will share Complete College America’s four pillars of success–purpose, structure, momentum, and support–as well as the ways colleges and institutions can responsibly address equity and disrupt historically dysfunctional educational structures and practices in order to ensure that all students, particularly those who have been excluded from opportunities, can access and achieve academic success.
