Nettles African Diaspora Student and Artist Exchange
Nettles African Diaspora Student and Artist Exchange
Lacking a common language, enslaved Africans in the U.S. connected through music, dance and art. Today, the arts link the 1.2 billion African-descended people who, collectively, would constitute the world’s third-largest nation.
On January 18th, at 10:30 a.m. EST, join the African Diaspora Consortium (ADC) for the launch of The Michael Nettles African Diaspora Globalization Student and Artist Exchange, for students and emerging artists from four diaspora nations, Bermuda, Brazil, the U.K., and the U.S. Trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis and visual artist Katrina Andry will offer highlights of their work.
Speakers include:
- Erica N. Walker, Director, Institute for Urban & Minority Education, Teachers College, Columbia University
- Paula A. Cox, ADC Chair and former Bermuda Premier
- David Lammy, British Member of Parliament
- José Vicente, President of Zumbi dos Palmares University, Brazil’s only Black university
