Writing and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
What is Generative AI? Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are machine-learning
systems capable of producing content, such as text and images, autonomously. AI utilizes
complex algorithms and neural networks to learn patterns from data and generate new output.
AI tools include ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Bing, among others. With Gen AI tools,
users can ask a question or make a request, called prompts, and receive immediate responses.
**Important Note: Teachers College does not have an official policy on Generative AI use.
Always check with your professor about whether and how they allow AI use for writing
assignments. Some professors will state their AI policy on their syllabus.
