Open data plays a pivotal role in advancing the field of learning analytics by providing a wealth of information and insight that can be harnessed to enhance teaching and learning practices. Based on the report prepared by NYC Open Data (2020), we have created case studies and presentations to share how Open Data can improve service delivery, promote equity, and increase efficiency (Strategic Initiative 11).
In order to fulfill this expectation, Dr. Yasemin Gulbahar delivered a workshop at the School of Data conference during Open Data Week 2024 to discuss the need for open data from an educational context point of view. She was supported by two graduate students of the "Learning Analytics" program, Maeghan Sill and Katherine Rojas. As open data activists, they underlined the need for improved data from departments of education.
