A quarter of a century has passed, yet for many in the Teachers College community, the memories of September 11, 2001, remain vividly clear. Today, we continue to hold close all those who lost and continue to lose loved ones.  

As Professor Ruth Vinz writes in her essay reflecting on where we are now: “No memorial, no anniversary, no act of remembrance can return anyone to the ordinary beginning of September 11, 2001. But there is always another morning — and another classroom — in which we practice what we will carry forward: whose histories we will know, whose suffering we will recognize, what we will refuse to turn into hatred, what forms of attention and care we will offer one another.” 

As we commemorate those who were lost and how we have changed, let us remember to care for one another thoughtfully, and remain steadfast in our work to bring good into the world.
