Samarthya Priyahita, an MA student in the Adult Learning & Leadership program at Teachers College, Columbia University, recently had her blog post featured on the TC Center for Sustainable Futures website. Her post, titled "Underscoring the Urgency of Environmental, Sustainability, and Climate Change Education in Puerto Rico, Indonesia, and Pakistan: A Compilation of Three Blog Posts," was selected from submissions in her Education and Sustainable Development class.
In her blog post, Samarthya delves into the pressing need for environmental, sustainability, and climate change education in Puerto Rico, Indonesia, and Pakistan. She highlights the unique challenges faced by these regions and emphasizes the importance of education in addressing environmental crises.
In Puerto Rico, Samarthya discusses the disproportionate impact of climate change on the island and the need for comprehensive environmental education to foster sustainability. She also explores the cultural and societal factors contributing to littering in Indonesia and advocates for education as a tool to change behaviors and promote environmental awareness. Additionally, Samarthya examines the water pollution crisis in Pakistan, particularly in the Sihala community, and calls for greater community awareness and government accountability to address this issue.
Samarthya's blog post showcases her deep understanding of the intersection between environmental issues and education. Her insights underscore the importance of incorporating sustainability principles into education curricula to create a more sustainable future.
We congratulate Samarthya on this achievement and commend her for her impactful contributions to the field of environmental education. Her work exemplifies the dedication and passion of our AL&L students in promoting sustainability and environmental justice through education.
