SUSPENDING COLLEGE OPERATIONS DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER
POLICY 430
1.0 PURPOSE
To indicate procedures and expectations when the College unexpectedly closes due to weather.
2.0 SCOPE
This policy applies to all employees.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
The interpretation and administration of this policy shall be the responsibility of the Provost and the Vice President of Finance and Administration.
4.0 POLICY
4.1 The College will remain open unless a weather-related closure is announced by the Vice President of Finance and Administration. Any closure will be announced as soon as possible on the College web site.
4.2 If the College closes by the start of the business day, Facilities and Public Safety employees designated by their supervisor are required to continue at the workplace. All other employees should not report to work.
4.3 In the event that the College closes during the business day, Facilities and Public Safety employees designated by their supervisor are required to continue at the workplace. All other employees may leave the workplace. Staff may request to leave work any time after a decision to partially close or curtail operations has been made, and after notifying their supervisor.
4.4 Employees may use vacation accruals if they feel it is unsafe to travel to the College because of adverse weather conditions.
4.5 Arrangements must be made to provide make-up instruction for any canceled class sessions. If classes are not canceled, but an individual professorial staff member is unable to conduct his or her class, then the professorial staff member must either contact the department office to arrange for a substitute instructor, or notify students that class is canceled and arrange for make-up instruction.
