Immunization Compliance

In accordance with Columbia University and New York State Public Health Law, all registered students (including non-credit/non-degree) must adhere to the immunization compliance requirement prior to registration in their first term of entry.

Upon admission to Teachers College (TC), all students will automatically have a “Health Hold” applied to their student account, prohibiting registration, until compliance is achieved. Documentation must be submitted immediately upon making the decision to attend TC, or no less than 30-days prior to course registration.

Compliance includes the verification of the below documentation:

MMR New York State public health law and University policy requires that all students born on or after January 1, 1957 document immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella. Documentation must be proof of the vaccines (given on or after the first birthday) or proof of immunity via a blood test.

Meningitis (MenACWY) New York State public health law and University policy require that students must complete a decision form to document one of the following:

1. Decline to be vaccinated

2. Intend to be vaccinated in the near future

3. Have received the ACWY (Meningococcal) conjugate vaccine in the past 10 years and will upload vaccination documentation

Those selecting the third option are required to upload proof of the vaccine and will be deemed compliant after our team has verified that the submission meets the requirement. Those selecting either of the first two options are complete when they submit their decision form.

Medical/Religious Exemptions

Columbia University is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive experience for all students and recognizes medical contraindications to vaccination as well as student observance of their faith as it pertains to the practice of immunization. Immunization exemption requests must be submitted immediately upon decision to attend Teachers College, or no less than 30-days prior to registration.

Upon submission and verification of the above documentation, or verification of an approved religious/medical exemption request, the registration (Health Hold) will be removed and the student may register for the current and future terms of enrollment.

Questions regarding immunization compliance should be directed to the Columbia University Immunization Compliance Team at immunizationcompliance@columbia.edu.
