Community Language Program

Program Description:

The Community Language Program (CLP) at Teachers College, Columbia University, is a part-time, non-credit program that provides quality and low-cost English and foreign language instruction to adult learners of diverse nationalities and backgrounds in the Columbia University and surrounding New York communities.

In addition, the CLP serves as an on-site language education lab in which TESOL and Applied Linguistics faculty and students enrolled in the masters and doctoral programs teach courses and use the CLP as a setting for empirical inquiry. Through their classroom observation and research, the CLP also gains insights into program efficiency and opportunities for its development. Thus, the CLP provides a fertile ground for a continuous synergy between theory and teaching practices.

This course develops beginner-level Spanish language proficiency on four skills (i.e. listening, speaking, reading, and writing) and cultural awareness

This course develops beginner-level French language proficiency on four skills (i.e., listening, speaking, reading, and writing) with attention to level grammar and vocabulary, as well as pronunciation.

TOEFL Preparation

Price: $425

Course Time: 30 hours

The TOEFL Preparation class is designed for students who want to prepare for or improve their scores on the iBT TOEFL test. The course focuses on skills and test-taking strategies for all sections of the test, including both the independent and the integrated tasks. Strategies include reading and listening for main ideas, facts, and inference as well as note-taking, planning, organizing, and delivering spoken and written responses.
