Empowering Educators with AI: Practical Tools and Strategies for K-12

Program Description:

Teachers Supporting Teachers is back with a virtual summer retreat that will equip educators with practical tools and strategies to integrate AI into their teaching practice. Participants will explore AI platforms like Claude, Khanmigo, and Magic School through live workshops, hands-on activities, and peer collaboration. By day’s end, educators will leave with ready-to-use resources, student activities, lesson plans, and meaningful connections with fellow teachers.

 

SCHEDULE:

  • 10:00 AM: Welcome and Conference Overview
  • 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM: Session 1: AI for Personalized Learning
  • 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM: Lunch Break
  • 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM: Session 2: AI-Powered Content Creation and Assessment
  • 2:30 PM - 3:00 PM: Closing Remarks

Instructor(s)

Clare Berends-Eitel, M.S., is the Associate Director of Instructional Design for the Digital Futures Institute at Teachers College, Columbia University. A former elementary educator with nine years of classroom experience, Clare now leverages her deep understanding of pedagogy and emerging technologies to empower educators through comprehensive instructional design, professional development workshops, and her leadership of the city-wide "Teachers Supporting Teachers" program for newly graduated teachers.

 

Lalitha Vasudevan, PhD, is the Vice Dean for Digital Innovation and Managing Director for the Digital Futures Institute at Teachers College, Columbia University.  Over the past 20 years, she has explored the intersection of adolescent literacies, media and technologies, youth culture, and juvenile justice. She engages participatory, ethnographic, and multimodal methodologies to study how youth craft stories, represent themselves, and enact ways of knowing through their engagement with literacies, technologies, and media.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Understand the potential of AI tools to personalize and enhance teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate the ability to select and apply AI tools for instruction, content creation, and assessment.
  • Collaborate with peers to evaluate and refine AI-integrated instructional practices.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for K-12 educators who want to learn more about AI tools and integrate those resources into their pedagogy.

Upon Completion

Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Licensed educators in NY state are also eligible for a Continuing Teacher Leader Education (CTLE) certificate for a total of 5 CTLE hours.
