Institute Overview
This institute is part of the Transforming Schools for Inclusion - Creating and Leading Cultures of Collaboration leadership series offered at Cal State LA. Facilitated by Teachers College and Cal State LA CCOE faculty and expert facilitators, this institute provides a structured, interactive professional learning experience for educators and administrators to deepen inclusive school practices across their organizations. The January 18th institute focuses on developing strong school-based co-teaching teams supported by proactive administrative coaching. Co-teaching communication and team accountability tools and practices are shared and modeled in a experiential and collaborative professional learning setting for school-based teams of three (1 administrator, 1 co-teaching pair). Participants take the StrengthsFinder assessment, examine their results, and reflect on implications for practice in their co-teaching team and classroom contexts. Participants spend part of the day with role-based breakout groups and part of the day in school-based teams. The institute culminates with a case study simulation for school-based teams to hone their communication skills and practice using their co-teaching team accountability structures.
