Dear TC Students:

As the summer semester is quickly approaching, I want to reach out with information about what you can expect this summer in terms of class accommodation, and COVID-19 mitigation.

  • As President Bailey shared last week, our expectation is that all classes will be held in person.
    • Barring extraordinary circumstances, the only exception to the in-person learning requirement will be international students who are unable to enter the U.S due to an unplanned or recent travel restriction.
    • If you are an international student who is registering for classes this summer and have unexpected or unanticipated travel restrictions that prevent your entry to the United States, please complete this form to request remote learning for the summer term. You must complete the form by May 15 if you are registering for the Summer A term or by June 15 for the Summer B term.
    • For those students who have particular concerns related to disability please contact OASID at oasid@tc.columbia.edu. For concerns related to Title IX (including pregnancy and parenting), please contact the TC Title IX Coordinator Janice Robinson at jrobinson@tc.columbia.edu.
    • Granting temporary remote access to classes this summer due to illness will be left to the discretion of each faculty member. Please consult with your instructors at the beginning of the semester to get clarity on their absence policy.
  • Students must follow these health and safety requirements in order to access campus this summer:
    • If you have not already done so, upload your proof of COVID-19 booster vaccine by May 23. All students must be vaccinated and boosted.
    • A decision is pending on a summer “gateway” PCR test. We will share an update as soon as we confirm whether a test will be required.
    • If you have not already done so, complete the COVID-19 Safety Training.
    • Complete the Daily Health Screening each day that you plan to access campus to help us monitor potential spread of the virus. As you plan ahead, please be aware that a flu vaccine will also be required for Spring 2023 class registration. We will provide a link to upload your proof of vaccine at a future date.
  • It is probable that TC will continue to be “Mask Mindful” during the summer, but this guideline is dependent on the state of COVID-19 cases on campus and in the city and is subject to change.
I am feeling optimistic as we move toward more normalcy in future semesters, and I look forward to seeing you on campus!

Warmly,

Thomas P. Rock
