Program Timeline
Estimated Timeline of Goals for Doctoral Students in Applied Physiology
This estimated timeline is based on full time status with substantial year-round (including summer) effort devoted to the doctoral program. The timeline will vary (i.e., longer or shorter timeline) for individual students depending on time commitment, coursework requirements, research issues, and other factors. An individual student’s timeline will be developed in consultation with the major advisor. Please note that doctoral students may complete and submit for publication papers prior to the dissertation study. This timeline is written with the assumption of completion of 3 sequential studies/papers; some students may conduct concurrent studies which will shorten the timeline.
Year 1:
- Satisfactory performance in coursework (B+ or better in all BBSR and Research-related coursework)
- Satisfactory progress (meeting performance goals as agreed with advisor)
- Identify area of doctoral research interest (s) in conjunction with advisor
- Draft of written review of the literature in this area
- Develop proposal for first doctoral pilot study, including theoretical framework, research questions and hypotheses, and methods
- Submit predoctoral research funding proposal
- Complete and submit IRB application
