Thomas Woods
1901 TC Faculty Member Thomas Woods leads the first Masters degree in Physical Education in the U.S.
Jesse Feiring Williams
1925 TC awards the nation’s first doctorate in Physical Education under the leadership of faculty member Jesse Feiring Williams. 1926 first PhD awarded to Frederick Rand Rogers. The first woman, Ethel Saxman received the PhD in 1926.
Josephine Rathbone and Clifford Brownell
1954 PE faculty and Movement Scientists, Josephine Rathbone and Clifford Brownell are among the 11 founders of the American College of Sports Medicine.
