D/S Changes FAQ

On July 17, 2026, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a final rule ending the use of “Duration of Status” (D/S) for F-1 and J-1 visa holders and replacing it with a fixed period of admission. The rule will take effect on September 15, 2026.
