We recognize that there is uncertainty facing the Teachers College community, particularly for our international students and scholars. In recent weeks, news outlets have been reporting on visa revocations and SEVIS terminations within universities and colleges across the country. Understandably, there have been many questions about how TC students are being impacted and how TC is supporting those students.
As Director of the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS), I want to assure you that our team is committed to providing support and services for students and scholars whose F-1 and J-1 visa status is being sponsored by TC. We are staying vigilant about any potential changes to immigration regulations and activities that may impact this population and actively monitoring the Student and Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS) database for any terminated records. The OISS will alert any students and scholars impacted by SEVP termination and guide them through the next steps.
TC Public Safety can be reached 24/7 at (212) 678-3333. Please note that any emergency event related to immigration, Public Safety will reroute those concerns to the OISS. The OISS is working in collaboration with campus leadership and partners to explore ways to further support international students and scholars’ success at Teachers College during these uncertain times.
If you have any questions, we welcome you to reach out to us, particularly during our ongoing Friday Virtual Advising sessions. These sessions are conducted all day (9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) every Friday. We are also available via phone (212-678-3939), email, and walk-ins during regular business hours (Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.).
International Students and Scholars are a huge asset to the Teachers College’s community. We value your input and scholarly contributions. We are here to support you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Angela Jeon-Huh
