Despite their influential presence, the rich heritage, histories, and contributions of Latino and Latina students’ families and communities are at best underrepresented, and at worst misrepresented, in curricular resources and classroom lesson plans. [...] Because NYCPS are diverse, both in terms of students’ and also teachers’ lived experiences, we envision the interdisciplinary exploration of Latinidad as an entrance point for all teachers and children, and youth of all ages and backgrounds, to gain a deeper understanding of the histories and influences of Latinidad in their region and contexts, as well as of the multiple dynamics and perspectives that comprise their contemporary society and communities.
