Benjamin Dickman, who graduated with a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education in 2014, has received a Teachers College Distinguished Alumni Early Career Award. The Early Career Award is reserved for those who have graduated from TC ten years ago or less, has earned distinction in their field, and demonstrates outstanding future potential. Benjamin’s work as a K-12 New York City mathematics teacher and continuously published teacher education research made him a clear contender for the award this year.
Benjamin’s research approaches mathematics education in new and innovative ways, investigating topics such as mathematical pathologies as pathways into creativity and mathematical code switching within the context of creative insubordination. During his time at TC, Benjamin also studied conceptions of creativity in mathematical problem-posing as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. Additionally, he has studied as a Fulbright Fellow in Nanjing, China and worked as a Postdoctoral Scholar in Mathematics Education at Boston University. We look forward to all that Benjamin will continue to accomplish and contribute to the field of math education!
