Publication on Supporting Rural Students from Varying Social Classes
Ty published his first academic journal article in the publication New Directions for Student Services. This piece, entitled "Spatial inequality and social class: Suggestions for supporting rural students across social class backgrounds," offers scholarly and practical insights about the varied social class backgrounds of rural students and how higher education professionals can recognize rural students’ different social class experiences and needs, with a particular focus on supporting rural students from poor and working class backgrounds.
Dissertation Fellowship through the ECMC Foundation and North Carolina State University Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research
Ty was awarded a dissertation fellowship from the ECMC Foundation Postsecondary CTE Research Fellows program, supported by the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research at North Carolina State University. This fellowship will fund his dissertation research that focuses on the cultural experiences of rural, poor and working class students in postsecondary education.
Graduate Research Associate Position at the American Council on Education
Ty recently received a Graduate Research Associate position at the American Council on Education, which mobilizes the higher education community to shape effective public policy and foster innovative, high-quality practice. This role will allow him to conduct research that impacts higher education policy and practice around the country.
