Dr. Mildred García, a first-generation college student, earned a Doctor of Education degree (May, 1987) and a M.A. in Higher Education Administration (January, 1985) from Columbia University, Teachers College.  "García will be the first Latina to lead one of the six presidentially based higher education associations in Washington D.C.  She will assume the AASCU presidency on January 22, 2018.  García will succeed Muriel A. Howard, who has been president of AASCU since 2009."
