Welcome to all incoming students! This year we are welcoming 80 master’s students and 6 doctoral students to the International and Comparative Education program at Teachers College. We are thrilled to have 17 different countries of origin represented in this cohort: China, United States, Japan, Brazil, South Korea, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Haiti, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Turkey, United Arab Emirates. Two thirds of our students are international!
On Tuesday, August 25th, we held our new student orientation. Over 100 people worldwide joined virtually to meet our faculty and program support staff and to learn about the multiple opportunities that the program has to offer. Faculty shared tips and suggestions on how to be a successful student and they engaged in a fruitful conversation about the hidden curriculum. Some of the guiding questions were:
- What is the one thing you wish you had known in the first semester of graduate school?
- What does it mean to be a successful student in the program?
- Could you share tips for navigating the heavy reading load in graduate school?
- What are some opportunities outside of the classroom that students should take advantage of while at TC?
- How can students develop productive relationships with their advisor and professors?
- What are some tips for successful navigation of group work?
