The ICEd program is celebrating the news of an alum, Kyle Long, who has been appointed as the President of the American University of Dubai (AUD). He will assume the position on August 15, 2024, becoming the president of a diverse campus of over 2,000 students from more than 100 countries. Long completed his PhD in 2018, working under Professor Oren Pizmony-Levy.

When speaking about his studies at TC, Long expressed, “The faculty were always encouraging. My advisor, Oren Pizmony-Levy, helped me to refine my questions and strengthen the evidence of my answers.”

When asked about his reflections about his time at TC, Long responded, “I worked hard, gained access to substantial resources, and met interesting people. I came in as a practitioner, who desperately wanted to become a better scholar. And that happened.”

He also expressed that he gained valuable skills that have translated into his positions post-graduation, mentioning, “I learned how to conceive and organize a research project, including how to recruit people to join you in its execution. I've applied that skill many times over in the succeeding years. And rallying people behind complex projects will come in quite handy in my next role. The social theory that I learned at TC has also informed much of my work and I expect that it will continue to do so as a university president.”

In addition to his Ph.D. in International and Comparative Education from Teachers College Columbia University, Long holds an M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College, and a B.A. cum laude in Classics from Wabash College.
