Those of us working in language issues in educational development are pleased to share with you our new website at https://www.tc.columbia.edu/languages-in-international-ed-development/, which is designed to highlight student research and some of our ongoing projects and collaborations focusing on multilingual education. We began working on the site in the summer of 2020 when, due to the COVID pandemic and our own motivations, we continued meeting on our common projects with continuing students and recent graduates—and even began integrating incoming students who kindly volunteered to join our teams. We were inspired by the Education in Emergencies website, and worked with TC Web Content Specialists Lori Strauss and Charisse Waller to find creative ways to display not only our current projects but also the international organizations and researchers with whom we are collaborating and planning future projects.
As you will see, we have included profiles of students and graduates as well as colleagues in the field and organizations with whom Carol and students are collaborating. We have shared photos from different contexts of our work, including classrooms in Senegal and Cambodia (as permitted, respecting children’s privacy) and colleagues in a range of countries and contexts. We describe our ongoing projects, including: a multilingual database of publications on multilingual education (MLE) in Spanish, Mandarin and French as well as English; support to NGOs and INGOs working in MLE in Senegal, Cambodia and Myanmar; and development of videos and resource materials on key concepts in MLE that can be adapted for use in different languages and contexts.
We welcome you to check out the new website, and to contact us if you are interested in learning more.
