International Education Week 2023

Join us from November 13th-17th, 2023 for International Education Week (IEW), a joint initiative between the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of State to celebrate diverse cultures and global education exchange. 

This year’s theme is “Global Hearts and Minds.” Events are related to the host’s interpretation of this theme, showcasing intellectual, professional, and personal connections across cultures and how they enrich our world. To register for events please use this link. We hope to see you all there!

Mini Language Learning Workshop hosted by the Society for International Education on Monday, November 13th from 2:00pm-3:30pm in GDH 179- Join the Society for International Education for mini-language lessons and workshop to uphold International Education Week! We will have 4 different language tutors who will teach you a language, each in different styles and methods.

 

Dance Passport: Latin hosted by TC Hub of Dancers on Tuesday, November 14th from 3:00pm-4:00pm in HM 152- Immerse yourself in the vibrant rhythms and rich cultural heritage of Latin dance. The TC Hub of Dancers invites you to embark on a dance journey that transcends borders, connecting hearts and minds through the universal language of movement.

 

The Pan-ethnicity of Asian American Identity in the U.S. and their Perceived Status within the American Education System hosted by Sori Kim and Jooyoung Jeon on Tuesday, November 14th from 5:30pm- 6:30pm in TH 136- Sori Kim (Ed.D candidate in Music & Music Education) and Jooyoung Jeon (PhD candidate in Science Education) will discuss their research on the complexities of Asian American identity in U.S. education and present a phenomenological case study about  culturally responsive music education. Join them to listen, learn, and discuss.

 

Analysis of Homeschooling in Colombia as a Growing Social Educational Phenomenon on Wednesday November, 15th from 12pm-1pm hybrid/in GDH 279 or on Zoom- Curriculum and Teaching Visiting Scholar Andrea Suarez will present her doctoral research project on homeschooling practices in Colombia from different conceptual, pedagogical, ideological, and legal perspectives.  Andrea brings her experience not only as an Associate Professor at Universidad Autónoma de Manizales but also as the School Principal of Colegio León de Judá. The Power of Mentoring: Strategies for Building Effective Mentor-Mentee Relationships on Thursday, November 16th from 1:30pm-2:30pm in GDH 279- Dr. Melody Russell, Professor of Science Education, the Endowed Alumni Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching, College of Education, at Auburn University, is a Visiting Scholar in the Mathematics, Science and Technology Department at Teachers College. Dr. Russell will present on strategies for building and enhancing mentor-mentee relationships to promote success in academia. Be sure to join us for a post-presentation discussion, too!

 

Full Hearts in Action: Joint Initiatives of The Quispicanchi Project and Quechua Communities in Peru hosted by Ghipsel Cibrian and Paul Gramling on Thursday, November 16th from 2pm-3:30pm in GDH 285- Join Ghipsel Cibrian (M.A. candidate in Education Policy) and her colleague Paul Gramling for an interactive workshop in engaging with Quechua communities in Southern Peru via Quispicanchi Project, a U.S.-based non-profitParticipants will think through sustainable projects related to education, public health, nutrition, and economic empowerment.

 

Posters & Potluck: A Cultural Exchange hosted by CIFLTE on Friday, November 17th from 

3:00pm-4:00pm in GDH 369- The Center for International Foreign Language Teaching Education (CIFLTE) invites you to poster presentations about weaving culture into the classroom, led by current and former students of the Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL) Certificate Program. Join in for creative teaching ideas and a potluck!
