We are delighted to announce a significant contribution during the spring semester of 2023 by Hugh T. Sockett, Professor Emeritus of Policy and Government at the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. Mr. Sockett generously donated two hundred of his own academic books to enhance the Philosophy and Education Program Library, a collection that includes his publication day copy of R.S. Peters' seminal work, Ethics and Education—R.S. Peters supervised Hugh Sockett’s Ph.D.

Notably, Hugh Sockett has authored several noteworthy publications, including Moral Thought in Educational Practice (Routledge, 2018), Knowledge and Virtue in Teaching and Learning: The Primacy of Dispositions (Routledge, 2012), and The Moral Base for Teacher Professionalism (Teachers College Press, 1993).
Hugh Sockett has embarked on a new creative endeavor as a novelist, drawing inspiration from his enduring fascination with Charles Dickens. He has already written one captivating series and is currently working on another. We are grateful to Hugh Sockett for his ongoing support of the field.
