The Civitas Dei Summer Fellowship is a project sponsored by the Institute for Human Ecology at the Catholic University of America and by the Thomistic Institute at the Dominican House of Studies that offers competitive fellowships for graduate students drawing from across fields in the sciences, humanities, and from law. Under the leadership of distinguished scholars, they engage core questions of culture and public life in light of Catholic thought.

Joseph Marshall, a doctoral student in the Philosophy and Education program at Teachers College, was a recipient of year’s fellowship. He attended a week-long summer program in Washington D. C. oriented toward the examination of “Friendship, Happiness, and the Search for God,” which featured lectures that approached the question of happiness from different scholarly perspectives, drawing upon the philosophies of Aristotle, Augustine, and Aquinas.
