On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Silvia Caprioglio Panizza visited the Philosophy and Education Program to lead a workshop on her most recent research. Her work spans meta-ethics, moral psychology, and moral epistemology, with a particular focus on how these theoretical questions bear on social and political issues, including those concerning animals, gender, and the environment. She is the co-editor (with Mark Hopwood) of The Murdochian Mind (Routledge, 2022), the first handbook dedicated to Iris Murdoch’s philosophy, and the author of The Ethics of Attention: Engaging the Real with Iris Murdoch and Simone Weil (Routledge, 2021). Professor Panizza has also made significant contributions as a translator of Simone Weil’s work, including Venice Saved (Bloomsbury Academic, 2019) and Mirror of Obedience (Bloomsbury Academic, 2023). Her workshop, “Of Moral Bondage: Necessity and Impossibility in Ethics,” sparked rich discussion among the students and alumni in attendance.
