Mentorship is an essential part of graduate education, helping students develop their craft, refine their interests, and shape their identities as scholars and professionals. Strong faculty mentorship can inspire students, build confidence, and broaden perspectives.
In that spirit, it’s an incredible honor for ICEP faculty member Oren Pizmony-Levy to receive the Priscilla Wohlstetter Faculty Mentoring Award. The award recognizes faculty who meaningfully support students’ academic, personal, and professional development and career exploration.

Oren Pizmony-Levy is an Associate Professor of International and Comparative Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. His research examines the emergence, diffusion, and impact of global education movements. Pizmony-Levy is the founding Director of TC’s Center for Sustainable Futures, which explores innovative ways to transform education through original research and the exchange of ideas, empowering people to address environmental challenges at both the global and local levels. |
Pizmony-Levy exemplifies outstanding faculty mentorship through the many ways he supports students: meeting with them during office hours, hosting and participating in program events that help students strengthen their academic writing and conference presentation skills, and involving students in research examining global education movements.
When reflecting on his own approach to mentorship, Pizmony-Levy described how the mentorship he received shaped the kind of mentor he strives to be for his students: “[My mentor] made me feel that I belonged and treated me as a valued member of the team. In my own mentoring, I try to offer students that same sense of belonging, support, and possibility.”
