Employment Resources

Job Search Resources

The following information is designed to provide resources for continuing F-1 and J-1 students who are thinking about employment, whether part-time employment during studies, short-term internships, or post-completion career options. Please remember that you should always check with the OIS regarding employment authorization regulations and requirements - not every job or employment situation can be authorized. Do not apply for or accept a job offer without first determining your eligibility to work.

The OIS is attempting to update and expand this section to benefit all students interested in pursuing employment options. Please feel free to share your experiences and information with other students by e-mailing us at tcintl@tc.columbia.edu

On-Campus Employment

Many of TC's international students secure on-campus employment with their departments as graduate assistants, course assistants, instructors, or other positions. Other students work with administrative offices, student services offices, and laboratories in a variety of positions.

TC Human Resources
The Office of Human Resources has on-line listings of part-time positions available to international students. Please remember that part-time employment positions 20 hours per week or less are permitted. Full-time positions (except temporary summer positions) and positions listed as "college work-study" are not permitted.

Columbia University Career Services

Some of the on-campus employment sites that have hired TC international students in the past:

  • TC Gottesman Libraries
  • TC Computing and Information Services (computer lab technicians)
  • TC Acquatic Center (lifeguards and swim instructors)
  • TC Office of Services for Individuals with Disabilities (readers, proofreaders, etc.)
  • Columbia University Libraries
  • Columbia University Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures
