GoodMaps is completely free for anyone to use. Sign in to the TC Employee or TC Student Portal. Search for GoodMaps from there to download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play and create a user account to get started.

1. Hold your cell phone up, as if you are taking a picture.
2. Find your position: Following the animation on your screen, slowly scan your position in a panoramic motion for the app to find where you are located within the building.
3. If scanning fails, relocate. You will receive an alert that states, “Unable to identify your position. Relocate to a new starting position and try again.” Once you move positions, the app should recalibrate and locate your position.

To view a 2D map of your current location, hold your phone flat, parallel with the floor in front of you. To view your location in augmented reality, hold your phone vertically in front of you.

Yes! GoodMaps provides “connected maps” at Teachers College, which means that you can be standing in one building, select a destination in another building, and use the app to help find your way there. When routing to a destination in a connected building, the app will automatically check you into the new building when you arrive at the connection point. 

For example, if you wanted to route from a classroom on the first floor of Zankel Hall to an office in Grace Dodge Hall, you would follow these steps:

1. Launch the GoodMaps app and check in to Zankel Hall.
2. Search for the office you wish to travel to in Grace Dodge Hall.
3. Select the type of route you wish to use (i.e., walking directions or avoid stairs).
4. Follow the routing directions.

GoodMaps will automatically check you into the new building when you reach the connection point, which could include crossing through an opening or traveling through a doorway or corridor where two buildings connect. After the new building map loads, you will be asked to scan your surroundings so GoodMaps can verify your location in the new building. Then, your routing instructions will commence.

1. Open the GoodMaps application.
2. Select a building, then tap check me in.
3. Find your position.
4. Find a destination in one of three ways:
   1. Enter the name of the place you want to go in the search bar.
   2. Use the Directory to search for a destination.
   3. Tap a point of interest icon in the 2D Map.
5. Preview your route: After selecting your destination, the map displays a preview of the route from your current location, with an option to view a full list of directions. Swipe up on the bottom of the screen for additional information about the point of interest, such as its location and hours.

After you select a destination, tap the “Avoid Stairs” button to receive directions to stair-free routes.

Users who rely on screen readers can choose to launch visual assistance applications at the end of a route. This feature can be accessed through the settings page and is only accessible when the user has a screen reader enabled.

To select accessibility preferences:

1. Launch GoodMaps and check into a building.
2. In the bottom-right corner of the screen, select Menu > Settings > Visual Assistance Apps.
3. Select the apps (e.g., Be My Eyes, NaviLens, etc.) that you wish to enable to work with the GoodMaps app.

Select the back arrow in the top-left corner of the screen to return to the Menu.

In the bottom navigation, tap Directory. You will see a list of all points of interest, along with an option to search for a specific destination.

1. After you reach a destination, select “End Route.” A feedback screen will appear.
2. You can rate your navigation experience. You can also visit this survey to provide additional feedback.

GoodMaps is available only for use within a venue that has been mapped. In most cases, this is confined to a physical building and its points of interest. 

All the buildings in the Teachers College complex are mapped, and you can use GoodMaps to route from a destination in one Teachers College building to another.
