DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve

After conducting extensive automated and manual tests, OASID does not recommend this application for TC students. Numerous prominent accessibility issues were identified with no possible workarounds discovered or established.

Furthermore, DaVinci Resolve did not provide nor post a Virtual Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) as a guide for how it addresses accessibility questions. Moreover, their website did not have any information pertaining to accessibility for the general public or for users of the system.

If departments wish to still use this software OASID strongly implores them to provide their students options such that they could choose to use an editing software that is more accessible while still being able to complete the same functions.

Accessibility

Accessibility testing for this product was completed on June 22, 2021. Any subsequent updates to the product or associated input devices after this date are not reflected on the current assessment.

Does not meet TC’s requirements

Focus

The majority of DaVinci Resolve’s desktop application does not receive programmatic focus when navigating with assistive technology.

Complex Layout

The user interface for DaVinci Resolve’s desktop application seemed comprehensive and robust, however many of the functions were not labeled or organized in such a way as to be user friendly and accessible. The system featured many instances of jargon and unclear language that may be confusing to users and stressful for users with reading or learning disabilities.

Unclear Functionalities

DaVinci Resolve’s captioning and audio description capacities were not readily apparent during the conducted tests. Though Resolve in all likelihood features capabilities for both, OASID staff were unable to identify how to add those during their process. Therefore, OASID staff worries that students may run into the same issue resulting in uncaptioned and further inequitable videos.

Alternative Technology
